BADAJOZ

Capital of the province and bearing the same name, it was founded in 868 by Ibn Marwan. It had periods of independence, such as during the time of Marwan or the Taifas Kingdoms .

Conquered later by Alfonso IX of León in 1230, life continued within the fortress, although buildings extended beyond the walls.

The fortress, different doors and towers, churches, and museums, such as the archeological, Fine Arts, and the MEIAC, as well as other monuments, are all worth a visit.
